Sonic Alert's Super Shaker Alarm Clock Is as Loud as a Chainsaw

Sonic Alert's Super Shaker Alarm Clock Is as Loud as a Chainsaw
For real gadgeteers

Here is a fun fact, namely me writing about a so-called gadget that I, for one, cannot own, ever. This is about an alarm clock, actually a very, very loud alarm clock. Coming from Sonic Alert, this is the Super Shaker, one (dare I say?!) retro alarm clock that will surely wake up anyone, no matter how deep they are sleeping. That is exactly why I can’t ever own such a clock, because I would tear it apart each and every morning that it buzzes in my head. (I have Telepopmusik - Breathe as a wake up alarm, and it has always worked, not today though).

With a nice and streamlined design, this won't really blend in with any environment (bedrooms, that is), but it will sure complete or add a touch to them, as well as fit a minimalistic indoor design. This is one of the few alarm clocks that I have seen featuring two brightness levels for the built-in night light, that users can take advantage of to illuminate close surrounding like their mobile phone or something else on the night desk.

Now, getting down to the technical specifications, I will let you know that the sound level of this alarm clock is an outrageous 113dB, but mind that it has an adjustable tone and volume control. If you're not into SPL and power audio, there's a big chance that you cannot relate to what that measurement means, so I will explain in a few short words. SPL is the sound pressure level, namely the loudness of the sound, which goes like this, so you can compare: 40dB is the loudness of raindrops, 90dB is for the typical hair dryer, while a chainsaw reaches 110dB, just a little bellow an iPod at peak volumes, 115dB.

With a sharp blue backlight that flashes when the alarm rings, 9V battery back-up supply to maintain the time and alarm setting in the eventuality of a power failure, the company won't even include the battery itself in the $42.95 price.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit.
